Nagoya, approximately 350 km south of Tokyo was the host of 2014 "Olympics of Metal Forming", the tri-annual ICTP. Like ICTP2011 in Germany it was amazing to meet like-minded pioneering scientists in the field of metal forming, and exchange ideas.
More than 400 interesting research works were presented from over 30 countries, mainly Japan, China, Germany and South Korea. It was interesting to see demanding research in the field of Stamping and forging, Extrusion and Microforming. As always, simulation and modeling of metal forming processes, and more specifically friction and in-process mechanical behavior were controversial topics. All the accepted papers were published in a special edition of the Procedia Engineering, accessible via clicking here. Potential collaborations with Japanese, Singaporean and German institutes were discussed and contacts are undergoing in this regard. Looking forward to attending the next ICTP in Cambridge (http://www.ictp2017.org).
