Ehsan Receives Pedagogical and Research awards - April 2019!

Picture

On April 4th, Ehsan received the pedagogical (PED) award at the school of engineering, Jönköping University, for excellence in course organization and administration. Ehsan was nominated by colleagues at the school, and the pedagogical development (PED) board at the school of engineering decided on his prize.
On April 25th, Ehsan also received the research (SPARK) award at the school of engineering, Jönköping University, for the best research collaboration of the year. The decision was made by the SPARK management team, based on the feedback that they received from the industrial partners in the HINT project, where Ehsan was the leader for 3 years.

Patrick attends the full-training of ThermoCalc software

Picture
Patrick attends a full-training for 5 days in Stockholm (May 6-10, 2019), organized by the ThermoCalc Software company. ThermoCalc software is a powerful tool for alloy design and processing optimization. This competence will be very helpful in expanding our research activities for modern alloy designs. We are grateful of the opportunity provided by the ThermoCalc Software AB for this full training.

Welcome Patrick!

We are glad to welcome Dr. Patrick Conway to our team. Patrick is our new postdoctoral fellow. His research will be mostly focused within the ALigHT II project activities. A warm welcome to Patrick and we hope it will be a start for expanding our team even further.
Patrick will be at ICHEM2018 in S. Korea and will present a work on behalf of Ehsan. Please do not hesitate to contact him for any research collaboration with our team.

IMC19, Sydney

Picture
Travelling from Sweden to Sydney! If we draw a line from nordic area to the center of the earth and continue, we almost reach to where I am now: Sydney, Australia. The 19th International Microscopy Congress (IMC19) has been a very big and professional congress. Distinguished scientists in the field as well as Nobel prize winners have had inspiring talks. I had my presentation the first day about a developed FIB-DIC method for high resolution strain mapping during materials deformation (static and dynamic), that was done during 2017 together with my other colleagues at Jönköping University. It was followed by couple of fruitful meetings which hopefully lead to some cross-continental collaborations. I am also looking forward to visiting some more colleagues at UNSW and couple of other institutes soon.
It was also great to have hands on and demo trials with state-of-the-art microscopes and instruments within the field.

Open position in our group!

Picture
A postdoctoral research fellowship position is now available in our group. The job will be focused on a practical research in (super)alloy development for high temperature applications, with significant involvement from industry. Novel alloy design concepts such as high entropy alloys will be used to develop the alloy, but most of the job will be focused on microstructural and mechanical characterization of the alloy; e.g. SEM, LOM, TEM, EBSD, XRD, hardness, tensile/compression, gleeble, creep, etc.
We look for highly motivated and hard working candidates; apply here.

PhD, licentiate & Master thesis defense

Picture
Congratulations to 3 group members:

Keivan Amiri Kasvayee for successful PhD thesis defense. Keivan did a very well job on September 8, 2017 for his thesis defense. Dr. Kasvayee's thesis title was: On deformation behavior and cracking of ductile iron; effect of microstructure. Download the thesis here.

Martin Riestra for successful licentiate dissertation defense. Martin did a very well job on December 14th, 2017 for his thesis defense. Download the dissertation here.

Toni Bogdanoff for successful Master thesis defense on September 29, 2017. His dissertation tile was: Development of Al-Si alloys for elevated temperature applications. Toni will stay with us as a group member; at the moment as a research assistant. Download his master dissertation here.

 Foundry Master programme

At Jönköping University, we have established an online master program in the field of metal casting. The program targets both professionals and students with background in materials engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics or equivalent subjects. The whole program is taught in English and you have the opportunity to admit as a full-time (1-year) or half-time (2-years) student. The application can be done under this link and the deadline is April 20th, 2017. The program starts on August 2017. More information: http://ju.se/mam

High entropy alloys - project initiative

High Entropy Alloys are showing a great potential for many industrial applications, especially at high temperatures or corrosive environments. The alloy design concept is based on a very simple thermodynamics law, wherein by increasing the entropy of the alloy, it microstructural and mechanical stability gets improved at elevated temperatures.
Based on that concept, and together with well-reputed industrial partners Sandvik and GKN-aerospace a project idea has been developed for improvement of traditional superalloys. The idea is being submitted to the Metalliska Material agency for possible funding. Please read more about the project initiative under this link and join us if interested!

PED group

Dr. Ghassemali has been appointed as the representative of the department of materials and manufacturing in the Pedagogical Development Group (PED) at the School of Engineering, Jönköping University. The agenda for such a group is to improve the quality of educational activities with focus on Profession of Teachers and Organization of Courses.
Monthly PED talks/labs for teachers, CDIO courses, Competence Development courses for teachers, PED conference and workshops, PED awards are only a few of the activities that the PED group is organizing.
