Our needs

All kinds of collaboration is gladly welcomed in the field of "physical and mechanical metallurgy" of metals and alloys including ferrous, nonferrous and high entropy alloys (HEAs). Areas of potential collaborative researches (that we specifically need collaboration) include, but not limited to, the following topics.

Processing

  • Sever plastic deformation techniques
  • High speed forming techniques
  • PVD/CVD; or other coating methods
  • Powder metallurgy for production of high entropy alloys
  • Additive Manufacturing

Characterization methods

  • XRD
  • Micro-CT scan or X-ray microscopy
  • Atom probe tomography
  • TEM
  • TDMS and hydrogen measurement techniques

Theories/modeling

  • Molecular dynamics 
  • First principal calculations
  • Ab-initio and CALPHAD calculations
  • Density functional theory (DFT)​
  • Structure/topology optimization

Our potential

We are open for fruitful collaborations within the field of Physical and Mechanical Metallurgy. Areas of our expertise that could be used for such collaborations include the following topics.

Processing

  • Lab scale sand/die casting (Al, Mg, Cast Iron)
  • Vacuum induction melting
  • Directional solidification with limited speed variations

Characterization methods

  • FESEM, EBSD, EDS, WDS
  • FIB/SEM (Ga LMIS) for 3D tomography, 2D/3D EDS, 2D/3D EBSD
  • STEM sample preparation and imaging
  • Ion polishing/coating system (PECS II)
  • In-situ tensile/compression/heating test (up to 5kN and 800C)
  • Micro/Nano hardness/scratch
  • Conventional tensile test at room and elevated temperatures with extensometer
  • Creep test (under development)
  • DSC, Dilatometry, Flash laser (thermal diffusion)
